2013 Wool Trust Fund
Each year Virginia receives funding from the Wool Trust Fund to be used for promotion and marketing of wool (the amount allocated is based upon state sheep numbers; this year Virginia received $2,478). These funds come through the American Sheep Industry Association (ASI), and their source is the tariff collected from imported wool.
The Virginia Sheep Producers Association is soliciting proposals from Virginia producers and organizations for programs and events that will support the objectives of the fund.
Possible funding uses include:
• Procuring a wool speaker/specialist for a presentation at an upcoming state sheep association meeting (costs could include meeting expenses, speakers' fees, travel and lodging costs);
• Wool equipment, such as a baler;
• Funding state Make-It-Yourself-With-Wool program activities;
• Conducting wool seminars, wool pool meetings, etc.;
• Supporting a value-added program, such as the making of wool blankets or other wool specialty products;
• Wool education, such as wool handling and classing schools and shearing schools;
• Writing/printing/distributing wool education materials, either for industry members or consumers or both.
Virginia producers and organizations wishing to apply should submit a proposal describing the program or event requesting funding (including the requested amount and other relevant budget information), a description of the organization that sponsors it, what the requested funding would be used for, and how it would increase the awareness and marketability of Virginia wool.
Proposals are due by March 30, 2013. Applicants will be notified by April 15.
Successful applicants are required to submit a report on the program or event subsequent to its completion.
Please contact VSPA board member Martha Polkey if you have questions about the program or your application. Submit applications electronically (address below) or by mail (14605 Chapel Lane, Leesburg, VA 20176).
